Cultural garden for Penong School

Trevor Scott and Glennette Miller have been contracted by penong school to work with students creating a cultural forest for the future students of the school.  Glennette explained to the children that the in the past this forest would be the shop where people got everything they needed. The scotdesco gardeners planted trees and bushes that provide water, food, medicine, tools, shelter and even lollies.

This is a long term project with Penong school and the trees are growing nicely thanks to pretty good winter rains, The Outback gardeners team are getting on with the job of making the information signs to be posted in amongst the trees.  Artist Janine Gray worked with Glennette teaching the students about art techniques to produce some beautiful paintings which will be used for backgrounds for the information signs.

The penong students travelled to scotdesco and enjoyed a tour from Bobby Larking to the rainwater harvesting area and of course the big wombat.... After their art session the children were treated to a beautiful fresh lunch from the Scotdesco Expresso cafe followed by some special bush milo ice cream made by Glennette with the minu-ma seed.....

The students were very keen artists and Jenny and Glennette visited penong school the next day to help students finish their work off.  Jenny was very impressed with the high standard of the students work and of course the principal Mrs Murray, loved the art so much she is getting it framed to display around the school....

Glennette, Trevor and Jenny are looking forward to more cultural lessons next year where they show the children the cultural uses for the trees out in the bush and get the children involved in propagating some bush medicine trees for their forest.... .Contact scotdesco office for more information about a cultural forest for your organisation
